Le Prix de Paris (Hippodrome Paris-Vincennes, February 21, 2010)

The world’s richest trotting race this past weekend produced an upset winner of the 350,000 euro (US$490,000) Prix de Paris. Private Love, a 7 year old daughter of Goetmals Wood – Amour d’Aunou – Speedy Somolli won the 4,125 meter marathon  at odds of 15-1 over another mare, the 8 year old Oasis Gede (Buvetier d’Aunou – Favorite Gede – Joisco). Both reflect the Franco-American breeding impact of Jean Pierre Dubois. The dam of the winner is from the noted French mare Nesmile, by Caprior, and this mare also produced the sire of Oasis Gede. The winner covered the distance of over 2-1/2 miles, in 5:06.48, a mile rate of 1:59.3. Respected distance performer Paris Haufor was 3rd. Matthieu Abrivard drove the winner for trainer Fabrice Souloy and owner Comte H. d’ Ornano

Prix d’Amerique winner Oyonnax finished fourth after a bruising battle to the front at the halfway point and Prix de France winner Meaulnes du Corta was 12th after a first over, three wide attempt for the lead that Oyonnax followed. Both started with a 25 meter handicap behind the other 12 starters.
