European Happenings; Maharajah Scratched from Elitloppet

One of the Elitloppet favorites, Maharajah (Sweden), has been scratched from his elimination on Sunday.  Of the remaining entrants in his elimination, the early wagering favorites are Formula One, Timoko and Neste Effe. Favored in the second elimination are Sebastian K, Brad de Veluwe and Nahar.

Today at Vichy (France) the Prix des Cevennes was conducted, the Challenge of Centre-Est for four year-olds over 2150 meters (autostart). With a purse of 29,000 euro the winner was 2/1 favorite Vormensito (4g Quatre Juliet-Carmensito-Florestan) trained by Jean Baudron for owner/driver Jean-Pierre Dubois, winning in 1.14.7kr. Dubois scored his seventh win since returning to driving duties in France on May 1st.

May 22 at La Capelle showcased regional championships including the Prix Picolo San for five year-olds (Championship Grand North) over 2200 meters (autostart) for 22,000 euro. Unword (5g Password-Opale de Fe-Buvetier d’Aunou) was the 1.156.2kr winner for Franck Nivard and trainer Fabrice Souloy.

cois Caille (European) for 26,000 euro, over 2750 meters, went to Italy’s Moriondo (7m Zinzab Brooke Tur-Axel-Navajo) trained and driven by Louis Baudron for Scuderia RB Team. He scored in 1.14.9kr in defeating Zidane Boshoeve (7m Diamond Way-Ocarine Boshoeve-Invit Broline) and Pierre Vercruysse.

      

Moriondo

The Prix Lynx du Goutier (three year-old Championship Nord) for 22,000 euro, over 2700 meters (autostart),went to Ansone du Kastel (3m Gros Grain-Lancee-Courlis du Pont) and trainer/driver Emmanuel Allard, scoring in 1.15.6kr. Accord Parfait (3m Prodigious-Know How-Blue Dream) was second for Julien Dubois.

Other winners of interest internationally this day were:

  • Mr. XF Royal at Bjerke in 1.13.6kr for Lars Anvar  Kolle; VC Chocoholic was third in this 2100 meter test;
  • Special Agent Man (2m Federal Flex-Minor Skirmish-Conway Hall) won a 3R Quebec qualifier in 2:03.3h to become the first two year-old trot winner in North America;
  • Denver (3m Andover Hall-Bahama-Coktail Jet) won a $20,000 Pennsylvania Stallion Series event at the Meadows in 1:55.2f. The promising colt is trained by Annette Lorentzen for ACL Stuteri AB. Denver was bred by Ecurie Avec Moi.
