Today at Treviso (ITY) the internationally renowned Mack Grace SM (7m CC’s Cmbro Grace SM-Armbro Goal) easily won the 45,100 euro Gran Premio Cita’ di Treviso in a sharp 1.10.8kr for driver Roberto Andreghetti. The favorite defeated Owen CR with Pietro Gubellini driving. Orleans OM was third over the 1609 meters autostart course. The winner is from the maternal family of Gallant Hanover (E.H. Harriman Challenge Cup winner), Gil Hanover (second in Yonkers Trot), and Glass Hanover (Copenhagen Cup winner at age five).

On Saturday the well regarded Prussia (Ken Warkentin -Elvezia-Pine Chip) with Pietro Gubellini up engineered a game first over trip to win the Gran Premio d’Europa Filly (1600 meters autostart, purse 55,000 euro) in 1.12.3kr. The Fabrice Souloy trained filly has demonstrated her grit and determination this summer, today being no exception.

Deuxieme Picsous (6m In Love With You-Carmela Stromline-Delvin Kosmos), in rein to Johan Untersteiner, handed Nahar a defeat in today’s Gr. II UET Master Series Malarpriset Gold Division at Eskilstuna scoring in 1.12kr. The 2140 meter autostart event offered 300,000SEK to the winner. Robert Bergh’s Nahar (8g Love You-Mahonny Broline-Joie de Vie), the 2013 Elitloppet winner, was second with Harry Haythrow (7g Rite On Line-Speedy Tilda-Spotlite Lobell) third for Peter Untersteiner. Iceland and Oracle were also in the beaten field. The winner’s maternal family brings back memories. His second dam is Shark Bait Staro (Bonefish-Jitterbug-Speedy Scot) and two generations further back shows Gremlin, dam of Saboteur, winner at age two of the E.H. Harriman Challenge Cup and the American-National. Don’t overlook the sire In Love With You either. He’s by Coktail Jet from Amour d’Aunou.
Nahar was used hard in this effort, attacking three-wide to gain the lead after You Bet Hornline and Mr. Pocolit battled early. Post positions were drawn in advance for the three heats with final results determined by best in placings. Landlord (8m Baltic Bet-Golden Lady) took heat #1 in 1.15.1kr, from post six, over Nobody (6m Tony Oaks-Gunnel Diadem) with Lucky Luke (8m Copiad-Eugenia) third. Heat #2 went to Nobody from post eight with Emil Csordas the trainer/driver, in 1.17kr over Nana (6f Tony Oaks-C’est la guerre) and Orlando Bloom (5m Zador-Donna Summer), both Imre Fazekas trainees. Powell Bi (4m Toss Out-Gulfstream-Pine Chip) scored a narrow win in today’s Prix PMU over 2100 meters autostart. The European male affair with a purse of 56,000 euro was dominated by Italian trotters. The winner, driven by Franck Ouvrie for trainer Fabrice Souloy and owner Az Agr Biasuzzi Srl, won in a quick 1.12.3kr over Pioneer Gar (4m Varenne-Follia-Pine Chip) and Roberto Vecchione (trainer Holger Ehlert) and Picone (4m Credit Winner-Fabiaz-Lemon Dra) trained and driven by Sano Mollo. The 18 horse field included seven from Italy. The race was the day’s Quinte+ event, and the 65/1 winner Powell Bi caused the non-jackpot payoff to be 227,808 euro for a two euro investment. The jackpot was 5,550,000 euro for the day.

One of the Elitloppet favorites, Maharajah (Sweden), has been scratched from his elimination on Sunday. Of the remaining entrants in his elimination, the early wagering favorites are Formula One, Timoko and Neste Effe. Favored in the second elimination are Sebastian K, Brad de Veluwe and Nahar.
Today at Vichy (France) the Prix des Cevennes was conducted, the Challenge of Centre-Est for four year-olds over 2150 meters (autostart). With a purse of 29,000 euro the winner was 2/1 favorite Vormensito (4g Quatre Juliet-Carmensito-Florestan) trained by Jean Baudron for owner/driver Jean-Pierre Dubois, winning in 1.14.7kr. Dubois scored his seventh win since returning to driving duties in France on May 1st.

Sebastian K (7m Korean-Gabriella K-Probe) won the prestigious Oslo Grand Prix (2100 meters, autostart, 1.5 million Norwegian krone) in start to finish fashion for Ake Svanstedt, defeating fast closing Nesta Effe (6m Naglo-Etna Sec-Viking Kronos) by a length. Maharajah (8m Viking Kronos-Chili Khan-Giant Chill) finished fast from the back to be third for Orjan Kihlstrom. A good crowd was on hand despite partly cloudy, cool and occasionally rainy conditions.
Maharajah followed Commander Crowe’s move toward the top earlier in the race, then dropped back to last, before starting another rush with a quarter mile to go. Commander Crowe raced first over during the middle of the race, unable to contest for the lead, before fading to last in the lane. Time of the race was 1.12.8kr in an evenly rated contest. Raja Mirchi finished fourth after making a miscue early and Viking Frecel was fifth.
Earlier on the card the Radio Metro Cup was taken by BWL Champion (8g Pine Chip-Lovely-Top Love) for driver Bjorn Goop and trainer Petri Salmela in 1.12.8kr over 1609 meters, autostart. He defeated Montgomery Hill (by SJs Photo) and Acolyte Hanover (Windsong’s Legacy). BWL Champion won his elimination in 1.12.1kr defeating Vasterbo Paradise (by Dream Vacation) and O’Grady (SJs Photo). The second elimination went to Montgomery Hill driven by Flemming Jensen in 1.13.6, defeating I’m The Answer (Credit Winner) and Joke Face (Viking Kronos). HippodromeParis-Vincennes today hosted an exceptional trotting card highlighted by the Gr. III International Prix Guillaume de Bellaigue, a monte event over 2700 meters for a 120,000 euro purse. Billed as a battle between Quarry Bay (9f Cygnus d’Odyssee-Barcarolla-Fakir du Vivier) and Pluto du Vivier (10g Extreme Dream-Iguine du Vivier-Buvetier d’Aunou), the prognosticators were right. Ms. Camille Levesque rallied her mare to a close win over Matthieu Abrivard handling Pluto du Vivier, timed in 1.13.2kr and off as even money favorite. The winner is owned and bred by Ecurie Pierre Levesque and trained by Mike Lenders. Second place Pluto du Vivier was bred by Jean-Yves Lecuyer, a leading commercial breeder in France.

Ulk Medoc (m5 Karkai-Organza Haut Gilet-Fast du Gilet) won today’s GNT leg #3 (purse 90,000 euro over 2,650 meters) at Saint Galmier for owner/trainer Lionel Cesar and driver Franck Carbineau. The 11/1 winner was third across the line beaten a half-length but the first two, Stanton (Thomas Levesque) and favorite Star du Villeneuve (J-M Bazire), were disqualified for being off-stride and rough-gaited. Veteran class-master Punchy was handicapped 50 meters and finished ninth after completing his course in the fastest km rate in the field, 1.14.3 (1:59.55 mile rate). Ulk Medoc won for the 14th time in 33 lifetime starts, increasing his career earnings to over 270,000 euro. He scored in a mile rate time of 2:00.67 over the 1-5/8 mile distance. The GNT, race #1 on the card, was the Quinte+ event with a jackpot worth 2.1 million euro to a winner holding a ticket with the first five in exact order plus the system generated 4-digit jackpot number. Holders of exact order tickets without the jackpot number still collected 277,332.60 euro.
Also on the well-attended card was the Prix de Conseil General with 17 starters vying for the 28,000 euro purse over 2,675 meters. Open to European registered contestants, the field included those from Italy (3), Sweden (2) and France. The Levesque stable, trained by Mike Lenders, finished 1-2 with their European charges, both owned by Gerrits Recycling Group. Angie Boko (6f Yankee Glide-Simb Capi-Probe) rallied to win for Pierre Vercruysse at 14/1 over 2/1 favorite Niccolo’ Lavec (6m Scarlet Knight-Image Lavec-Viking Kronos) and Thomas Levesque. Angie Boko covered 2,675 meters in 1.15.9km with her stablemate distance handicapped another 25 meters. She was bred by Boko Stables Sweden AB. The entry could be bet as an entry and each horse can be wagered on individually. The entry was off at 1.6/1.
On April 6 Paper Caf (4g Conway Hall-Evoila Caf-Supergill) won the 45,100 euro, 1620 meter Prix Trinacria at Palermo, Italy for driver David DiStefano, scoring in a mile rate time of 1:58.26. The same day Rosamundi won the Kincsem Park feature, the Scot Palmer DIJ, a 1900 meter autostart event for 500,000 HUf. The 5 year-old daughter of Chipmate-Kama Sutra-Lindy’s Crown) defeated Andorra Gold (5f Andover Hall-Olympics-Muscles Yankee) in a time of 1.16.4km. Both mares have been racing well since their recent arrival from Scandinavia.

Veteran 10 year-old gelding Commander Crowe (Juliano Star-Somack-Mack Lobell) just scored his first victory on the comeback trail for trainer Fabrice Souloy, winning the Olympia Trial II (Faber Elite Challenge). Matthieu Abrivard got the driving assignment today and directed the Commander on the front gate to wire in this 2,600 meter (1-5/8 mile) event to win by 1-1/4 lengths. The purse was only 6,875 euro, with the winners share to owner Snogarps Gard AB. Commander Crowe is a lifetime winner of over $3.1 million euro.
Vasterbocheckpoint (8h Comet’s Tail) finished second for Peter J. Stropper with Icare de Bois (9h Pine Chip) third for Nico D’Haenens in a less than stellar field. The race was contested off the starting car at Hippodrome Wolvega (Pays Bas) in the Netherlands. Commander Crowe covered the distance in 3:20.8 (mile rate 2:04.21). Next up for Commander Crowe is reportedly April 20 in the Olympiatravet at Aby.
